NELFUND to launch skills acquisition programme for students in tertiary institutions

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, NELFUND managing director Akintunde Sawyerr said the program will give students relevant and useful skills for the contemporary labor market.

"We will begin a comprehensive skills acquisition program offering training in a range of vocational and technical fields in six months," stated Sawyerr.

"This program is intended to foster entrepreneurship and innovation among our youth while preparing students to meet the demands of the modern job market."

He announced that to start the program, NELFUND would collaborate with already-existing centers for skill development.

Regarding the current student loan program, which began last week, Sawyerr stated that 126 postsecondary schools are collaborating with NELFUND and that the portal has had over 9.5 million visits since its inception.

The NELFUND portal was made available to the general public on May 24th.
The initial phase of the program would assist students at federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges, according to NELFUND.

On Thursday, Sawyerr did, however, also declare that admissions for state-owned universities would open in three weeks.
