SHOULD POST-UTME BE SCRAPPED OR LOOK WAYOUT TO MAKE STUDENTS SECURE ADMISSION

This question borders my mind whenever I hear Jamb or Post-Utme should be scrapped. On Thursday, The Minister of Education Mr. Adamu made statement about scrapping of Post-Utme. Well, from the statement, I decided to comment that should Post-Utme be scrapped or the Federal Government should look for a way out for students sitting for Jamb to gain admission into Higher Institutions. This topic shouldn’t be a debating one because, the way Education in this country is going demands more examining bodies to raise to the
standard level Education demands in the world. Let’s flash back, there was a year if I could remember when a guy that scored at least 250 above in Jamb wanted to study medicine but unable to differentiate between plant and animal. Students that score below 200 are unable to have access into higher institutions. Post-Utme as I am concerned, I believe it is a means of making those that scored high marks like 250 and above and those that are privilege to meet the national cut off marks to have access to Higher Institutions. If we decide to scrap it, the normality and standard of securing admission will drop, it will lead to high rate of no admission to students, contributes to high rate of examination malpractice whereby some students will be looking for means to score high marks, Higher Institution will be biased in admission, giving conditions and raising the cut off marks of some courses making it hard for students to easily gain admission as it was before Post-Utme commenced. Let this Post-Utme continue according to NAU vice chancellor’s statement that
“Post- Utme was vital for quality assurance and maintenance of standard in Education”.
This statement made by the Minister of Education should be addressed once again, so that there will be no pot-holes in securing Higher Institutions admission
