THE West African
Examinations Council, WAEC has approved cancellation of entire results
of candidates if found guilty of examination malpractice. The decision
was reached at the 61st Meeting of the Nigeria Examinations Committee
(NEC) of West African Examinations Council (WAEC) held at Excellence
Hotel and Conference Centre, Ogba, Lagos.
The communiqué made available to the press stated: ‘’It approved the
entire results of candidates involved in proven cases, which attract
Cancellation of Entire Results (CER) be cancelled, while subject results
of those involved in proven cases which attract Cancellation of Subject
Results (CSR), be similarly cancelled.’’
It said that some candidates who participate in examination malpractice
will also suffer other sanctions such as being barred from sitting for
the Council’s examinations for a certain number of years, while some
schools which connive with students to cheat will be de-recognised.
The statement as signed by the Head of Public Affairs, WAEC, Nigeria,
Mr. Demianus Ojijeogu vowed that the decisions of the Committee will be
implemented without delay and the affected candidates and schools will
be duly informed by the Council.
It, however promised that the results of candidates of May/June 2015
WASSCE who were exonerated of examination malpractice by the Committee
will be released. On the cases of candidates who engaged in examination
malpractice but did restitution to WAEC, it said the Committee
considered special cases, clemency cases, restitution, petitions and
previous cases referred for further investigation from previous
examinations.
Membership of the Committee comprises four representatives each, of the
State Ministries of Education and the Department of Education of the
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, All Nigeria Confederation of
Principals of Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS and the Universities. It also
includes the Registrar to Council, the Head of the Nigeria National
Office, the Head of the Test Development Division (TDD) and the Head of
the Test Administration Division (TAD) of the Council.
